Ryan Hemsworth shared a new song today. “Afterglow” is the first original track from the producer this year. Hemsworth plays guitar, sings, and works behind the boards, while Keira McArthur adds cello parts. The tune begins hushed and lovely, like a children’s lullaby; gradually the beat incorporates more and more power.
A complex, constantly evolving, musical relationship now in its fifth year, the project has seen the band producing music in both Kenya, for their self-titled 2009 album, and in London with the second Power Punch LP. The group features Nyatiti master Joseph Nyamungu and Lou percussionist Charles Owoko, both from the Nyanza Province in Western Kenya, as well as London-based musicians Tom Skinner (drums), Jesse Hackett (vox/keys) and Louis Hackett (bass).
20 Years of Being Skint celebrates our rich history of brassic beats.
Established in 1995 as a sub-label to our infamous Loaded Records, Skint quickly became a major player in the independent music scene, releasing a massive range of underground classics and chart hitting anthems.
To celebrate the Anniversary of the label we’ve delved into the archives and plucked out our finest moments as well as pulling in new armoury that continues the tale of big beats.
Originally started as solo project for Great Cynics’ bass player Iona Cairns. After playing a few solo shows at the end of 2014, she teamed up with Ben Cottam (OK Pilot) to drum on some recordings produced by her brother, Ali in their parents’ garage. The recordings were then passed on to Thom Weeks (Gnarwolves) and Fitzy Fitzgerald (Smith Street Band) who added their parts to complete the EP as we now hear it. Five tracks of brilliantly written poppy punk rock about relationships, anxiety, growing up with Iona offering an honest and refreshing female perspective.
