Laurel Collective – Jelly Bird

LABEL: Tape Club Records

FORMAT: Single

GENRE: Alternative

DATE: 23/07/12

Following the release of their debut album Heartbeat Underground which launched with a stunning show courtesy of Time Out, Laurel Collective are proud to announce they’re treating us to a new single called “Jelly Bird”. Shimmering, psychedelic and carrying a wonderfully executed madness, the track showcases so very perfectly what Laurel Collective are about. Modestly employed synth, tight guitars and an all-out percussion section dominate “Jelly Bird”.

This is the band who, whilst holding down 9 to 5’s (which includes call centres, a phlebotomist, and even producing duties, drummer Charlie Andrew recently produced the new Alt-J record) conceived and curate their own festival: In The Woods. Their tireless superhuman efforts brought to our attention the likes of Micachu and the Shapes, Pete and the Pirates and a beguiling young woman called Anna Calvi; and now they deserve the same attention. Laurel Collective epitomise intelligent music at its best: a witty, diverse and modern take on the indie genre.

Watch the brand new video for “Jelly Bird” here:

“Laurel Collective rummage through the dressing-up box of pop, subverting here, pushing the boundaries there…engrossing” – Q

“If you imagine Metronomy as the uncle of 2011’s bizarre pop uprising, Laurel Collective are undoubtedly a disobedient, prep-schooled cousin; their music a well organized chaos of bleeps, melodies and arrangements in disarray… A beautiful disorder from a frantically exciting young band.” – The Fly

Circus Town – Beautiful Filth

LABEL: Twisted Jukebox Ltd.

GENRE: Rock – Rock ‘n’ Roll

DATE: 23/07/12

British rockers Circus Town continue to unleash their brand of dirty indie rock & roll with their highly anticipated debut album, “Beautiful Filth”, out today through Twisted Jukebox Ltd.

Produced by renowned producer Gavin Monaghan (The Editors, The Twang, Nizlopi, Kings of Leon), “Beautiful Filth” is a modern rock & roll album infused with infectiously catchy melodies, gyrating guitar riffs, soulful rock vocals and head-nodding rhythms. This album is the follow up to the previous independently released “3” EP, produced by producer/engineer Greg Freeman (Amy Winehouse, Goldfrapp, Peter Gabriel) and recorded at Real World Studios.

Hailing from Birmingham, Circus Town is comprised of Gavin Morris (singer/guitarist/songwriter), Andy Gibney (drums) and Paul Cooper (bass). The rock & roll trio’s sound often draws comparisons to White Stripes, Led Zeppelin, Wolfmother & Neil Young. Circus Town do not disappoint in delivering unforgettably great songs and energy.

‘Clearly a band with poetry in their soul’ Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6

‘A band that obviously knows the difference between music & a haircut’ Gavin Monaghan, Producer (The Editors, The Twang, Nizlopi, Kings of Leon)

Doogie White & La Paz – Granite

LABEL: Albam Records

GENRE: Rock – Classic

DATE: 22/07/12

“Granite”, the new album by Doogie White & La Paz is out now through Albam Records.

Back in 1984 in Lanarkshire, Scotland, vocalist Doogie White (who is currently the singer for Tank and Michael Schenker)’s first real band La Paz was formed with Chic McSherry & Alex Carmichael. Paul McManus and Andy Mason were added to complete the classic line-up who, 3 decades on, recorded “Granite”. Years of hard gigging built them a Cult status in British Melodic Rock circles, and secured them a record deal, but the album didn’t get recorded, and, sadly for La Paz, the band went their separate ways with Doogie going onto to musical fame and Chic McSherry has become a successful crime fiction author.

Years later, legendary DJ Tom Russell of 96.3 Rock Radio called Doogie and asked him if he would do some acoustic numbers at The Garage in Glasgow for Rock Radio’s Birthday Bash in January 2008. Doogie asked Chic to join him on guitar, and before long, La Paz had reformed to do some packed out shows. The chemistry was instantly recaptured and the guys agreed to finally record the album that their fans had demanded for 3 decades.

The result is “Granite”. A melodic rock masterpiece, packed with classic songs, lush melodies, sparkling keyboards & chunky guitars. Some things are well worth the wait!
