The Featured Artist’s Coalition and Music Manager’s Forum launched a new awards ceremony, the Artist and Manager Awards, exclusively to celebrate UK artist and artist management success in music over the past 12 months.
The newly launched awards ceremony, the A&Ms, was a sell-out success, which took place in Camden on 13 September, 2011.
Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Co-Chair of the FAC, highlighted why the awards sets itself apart, by putting artists and managers at the forefront, “Artists are at the centre of our industry now more than ever and the A&M Awards will be a night remember and to celebrate all of their achievements. There are obvious synergies between the MMF and the FAC and our coming together acknowledges both the achievements and hard work of our members”.
A glittering evening at one of London’s great live venues, the Roundhouse, the first ever A&Ms featured performances from Mumford & Sons and Ed Sheeran.
And it wasn’t just about surprise performances and awards! Guests also enjoyed welcome drinks, a three-course dinner, networking and six additional prestigious awards.
The categories had both stiff criteria, and competition. For example, the recipient of the Breakthrough Artist of the Year Award must have shown demonstrable initial success in the 12 month period until the end of July 2011. In an industry notoriously hard to break, the artist or band will have accomplished a breakthrough year via a combination of innovative ground work, hard graft and cultivation of an engaged fanbase.
The Nominees for the Breakthrough Artist of the Year 2011 were Anna Calvi, Ed Sheeran, Yuck and Ben Howard.
We’re pleased to have been provided with the entire role of winners of the First ever A&Ms… the results are as follows:
Achievement Awards: Everybody’s Management and Artists
Brian Message of the MMF commented:
“The partnership between the team at Everybody’s Management and their artists has had an amazing year. Keane have delivered a fourth No.1 set, Laura Marling has deservedly won a BRIT and the hearts of many and Mumford and Sons have conquered the world. This award is truly well deserved.”
The Artists’ Artist Award: Massive Attack
Sandie Shaw, Nick Mason of Pink Floyd and Ed O’Brien of Radiohead, all co-chairs of The FAC commented:
“We have chosen Massive Attack as the recipients of the inaugural Artists’ Artist Award for their incredible artistic vision, back catalogue, and legendary live performances throughout their career to date. No album collection is complete without Massive Attack and the FAC are proud to recognise them as true artists. “
