After a summer of cabin fever, recording in hallways and basements, Straylings have now completed their debut album “Entertainment On Foreign Grounds”, with Sam Bell (R.E.M, Regina Spektor) and John O’Mahony (Metric, Alberta Cross) at the mixing desk. This release follows the success of their debut EP last June.

Straylings are Bahraini/Austrian songwriter Dana Zeera and London born guitarist Oliver Drake. Joined by various friends in the studio and on stage, they have played to a number of packed out venues across London, with recent headline shows at the Barfly, Borderline and The Scala.  Artrocker Magazine recently described their performance as “Compelling…Straylings serve up cinematic heartbreak with a side dose of opium…somewhere between Mazzy Star and Jefferson Airplane”.

Independently released through the band’s Deadpan Records imprint and free from outside constraints, Straylings’ debut album captures a genuine visceral energy, and holds an uncompromising creative approach.  The rawness, and at times lo-fi nature are effortlessly offset with an elegance and restraint – swirling, reverb-soaked guitars sit alongside rolling, restless drums and sultry, unyielding vocals.

BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens hailed the Straylings as “A brilliant London band…”, and they’ve been described as “Fantastic…” by Radio 2’s Steve Lamacq – they’ve also gained praise from producer Kramer (Urge Overkill / Pulp Fiction Soundtrack). They have received great reviews from press including LosingToday, who described their music as “A glorious psych tweaked slice of country-twang-wired folk, all at once magical, mercurial and majestic…”

“Straylings have a stunningly bold record in the locker” – DIY Magazine / This Is Fake DIY

“Full of raw, elegant emotion…expertly crafting a rich distinctive sound.” – The 405

“Straylings have released one of the best debut albums for a long, long time, Entertainment On Foreign Grounds is a truly bewitching album full of drama, passion and originality” – 10/10 – Rhythm & Booze
